My approach
I use an integrative style, tailoring my approach to each client's unique needs.
The primary modalities I draw from are as follows:
Strengths-Based Therapy
The overarching principle I use with all clients is that each individual has areas of tremendous strength and resilience, which can be tapped into to help improve wellbeing. I am a firm believer that you are the expert in your own experience; my job is to act as a guide, walking alongside you as you navigate your internal world and make changes that feel authentic and aligned with your values.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
The main goals of ACT are to identify your personal values and then use tools to move you toward a life guided by these values. Many of the tools I will teach you are rooted in mindfulness- learning to notice unhelpful thoughts and feelings rather than allowing yourself to become tangled up in them, leading to behaviors that move you toward your goals rather than away. Something I like about this approach is its focus on self-compassion and self-acceptance. I find it to be particularly effective with clients experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression.
Attachment-Based Therapy
Attachment-based work focuses on an individual’s relationships with caregivers in childhood and how they may affect their relationships today. I help clients increase their self-awareness and understand unhelpful patterns in relationships that may be present, opening up opportunities for improved connection and communication.
Additional Expertise
I have extensive experience in the areas of juvenile justice and school discipline. I offer nonjudgmental, respectful support to teens and their families involved in these systems and understand the stigma too often associated with these young people.
A Note on Inclusion
People of all races, ethnicities, gender expressions, sexual orientations, and religions are welcome in my practice. I have experience working in communities of color and always lead with curiosity and cultural humility.
